Speech-Language Pathologist - Mrs. Emily Provost - Ext. 115
A school Speech-Language Pathologist is trained to evaluate and treat students who have disorders in language (receptive/expressive), articulation (ability to produce sounds), fluency (smoothness of speech production, voice as well as problems associated with feeding and swallowing. A Speech-Language Pathologist may also work with students that have hearing impairments or students who utilize augmentative systems to communicate.
School Psychologist - Mr. Ed Cassinari - Ext. 108
The school psychologist is trained to evaluate for academic aptitude as well as social, emotional and behavioral functioning. Assessments are conducted and results are shared with parents, teachers, administrators and, if appropriate, students. Recommendations are offered and implemented regarding individual student profiles. The school psychologist plays an important role in providing counseling services for students and/or referring the family to outside counseling services. This individual provides individual and group counseling to students in need. Parental support strategies discussed at individual meetings and workshops are offered as well. In addition, the school psychologist works collaboratively with classroom teachers to develop appropriate interventions that address behavioral needs. The school psychologist is available to assist the teacher and administrator in crisis situations.
Social Worker – Mrs. Rachel West-Balling – 521-7830 ext. 236 (days at Ruth Chaffee Wednesday after 12:15 p.m., Thursday and Friday all day)
Ruth Chaffee School has a part-time social worker who provides a variety of social services to students and families. These services may include individual or small group counseling, classroom social, emotional and character education lessons, and family assistance with such matters as divorce, the loss of a family member, health care issues, or any other family crisis situation that impacts your child at school. The school social worker is a pivotal member of the school’s Crisis Team, Planning and Placement Team (PPT), and Early Intervention Planning Team.
Reading Teacher- Mrs. Bonnie Ruby - Ext. 113
The Reading Recovery teacher is a professional educator with specialized training in early literacy whose primary focus is to facilitate the acquisition of literacy skills for first graders having difficulty. This individual plans and teaches daily one-to-one reading and writing lessons based on performance analysis.
Reading Teacher - Mrs. Amy Inzero - Ext. 118
The reading teacher provides additional reading support beyond the reading instruction provided in the classroom. This additional reading assistance enhances student achievement in literacy development. The reading teacher develops effective reading strategies that are motivating and help to improve reading fluency, accuracy, comprehension and achievement.
Reading/LA Consultant - Kim Garger 117
The reading/language arts consultant serves as a resource person to the principal and staff in coordinating the total reading and language arts program throughout the school. This consultant provides additional support to selected groups of students having difficulty with reading through direct instruction according to their needs. This reading/language arts consultant assists in the selection and the evaluation of reading and language arts resources and materials. Learning Tutors
Learning tutors work with students who require support in language arts and/or math as recommended by classroom teachers and/or indicated by CMT results. Services are provided in the classroom through small group instruction and individual support.
